Interpolation-Based Time Delay Estimation for Moving Targets

Abstract

Time delay estimation (TDE) has been widely studied especially in the common scenario where the time delay of target echo signal does not coincide with sampling points. However, most existing works focus on the TDE of static targets, and the influence of target motion and integration are not considered. In this paper, the TDE problem for moving targets is studied with linear frequency modulation signal taken as the transmit waveform, and a first-order Taylor interpolation method incorporating integration and target motion is proposed based on observations and theoretical derivative of multiple samples around the peak position of the integrated echo signal. Simulations verify the superior performance of the proposed method.
