Abstract

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was coated on the hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) by means of water-solution suspension method. The coated CL-20 were tested by means of XPS, SEM, impact sensitivity and surface free energy measurement methods. The effects of the coated CL-20 on mechanical and combustion properties of NEPE propellant at room temperature were investigated. The results show that the coated CL-20 can greatly improve mechanical properties of NEPE propellant at room temperature as well as demoisture and combustion properties of high energy low characteristic signal propellant; σm can maximally increase by 47% and εm can increase by 184%, the pressure exponent n can decrease by 12%.
