Industrial Internet of minds: New-generation Industrial Internet for smart industry

The Industrial Internet has become a key platform and strategic choice for global industries and governments to promote the digital transformation of manufacturing and to shape the future competitiveness of industries. However, the current Industrial Internet tends to focus more on the connection and interaction of various production elements at the information level, such as human, machines and objects. With the rise of new-generation artificial intelligence technologies, the future direction of the Industrial Internet will focus on achieving intelligent-level interaction and collaboration through knowledge, leading to the emergence of new industrial modes, paradigms and applications targeting smart industry. Thus, three stages of Industrial Internet development were elaborated in detail: the Industrial Internet of Things, the Industrial Internet of Business, and the Industrial Internet of minds namely the new-generation Industrial Internet. Furthermore, the connotation of the new-generation Industrial Internet for intelligent manufacturing was analyzed, and a reference architecture was constructed from the perspectives of value, organization and technology. Finally, to provide theoretical guidance and new insights for the development of an intelligence-driven Industrial Internet, the application scenarios of the way to promote the full flexibility of production chains, the complete reshaping of value chains, and the full integration of industrial chains through the new-generation Industrial Internet were elaborated.
