Abstract

A novel algorithm for ground target recognition and tracking is presented. Since the remote target in the video is small, it is difficult to be recognized directly. Firstly, we choose the biggest and tallest ground building near the small target one as a reference object. Then, the reference object is recognized with the outline geometric shape features. Secondly, the location of the small target is decided according to its relative position with the reference object. Finally, we can recognize the small target based on contour shape features. The simulation experiment results show that the algorithm has the ability to recognize and track 2-kilometer remote target.
