Abstract

In order to improve the crosswind stability of formula SAE racing car. The virtual prototyping model of a certain formula SAE racing car was built by applying mechanical system simulation software ADAMS which took aerodynamic characteristics into consideration. By comparison with experiment data, the correctness of the virtual prototyping was verified. Based on these, the crosswind stability was analyzed by the simulation of typical crosswind. Several methods to improve the crosswind stability were proposed, including the optimization of suspension structure, the optimization of pressure center location and the installation of rear wing. The virtual test results show the installation of rear wing can improve the crosswind stability of the racing car furthest.
