Abstract

An efficient shooting and bouncing rays (SBR) method accelerated by an improved surface area heuristic (SAH) bounding volume hierarchy (BVH) is proposed for RCS computation of complex targets. To reduce the costly ray-triangle intersection tests, we construct BVH using an enhanced SAH that accounts for traversal probability and primitive distribution, achieving faster ray tracing than conventional SBR. For dielectric-coated targets, reflection coefficients are obtained via the transmission-line model, accurately handling oblique incidence and multiple reflections in layered media. Numerical results validate the method for both PEC and coated PEC targets.
