Abstract

An approach to analyze the impact response of the free standing equipment to vibration excitations is presented on the basis of the impact vibration model of rigid block. The theoretical prediction related to the response of free standing equipment to blast vibration is obtained through numerical calculation. It is in agreement with the experimental result measured from the response of a desk computer on the table to a case blast vibration. The presented result shows that the response of free standing equipment to blast vibrations mainly depends on the vertical component of the ground motion excitations as well as on the coefficient of restitution between the equipment and the table surface during impacting. In evaluating the safety of the equipment subjected to blast vibrations, the impact vibration response that occurs possibly should be considered.
