Abstract
This paper reviews impact testing technics using Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar setup. Experimental aspects such as the use of large diameter soft Nylon Hopkinson/Kolsky bar for an enhanced measuring accuracy and the field measurement technics with high speed camera and digital image analysis are discussed in details. Nominal testing results on various cellular structures (hollow sphere agglomerates, foams and honeycombs) are presented. Field measurement application to the determination of shock front speed in foams and the extraction of deforming profiles of beams in lattice structures under impact loading were also presented.
