Abstract
The high quality Na3La9O3(BO3)8 (NLBO) crystal has been successfully grown by the top-seeded solution growth (TSSG) method using a new Na2O-B2O3-NaF-BaO-MoO3 flux. Based on the volatility measurements and growth experiments, the appropriate molar ratio was confirmed to be NLBO:Na2CO3:H3BO3:NaF:BaCO3:MoO3 = 1:7.5:6.5:9:0.8:0.4. The characterizations, including X-ray rocking curve, transmittance spectrum, and laser-induced damage threshold, have been performed on the as-grown NLBO crystal, which indicated that the NLBO crystal grown from the new flux system exhibits high optical quality. Furthermore, its performance of the third harmonic generation (THG) was investigated using the as-grown NLBO crystal, consequently, a 355 nm ultraviolet (UV) laser with the output power of 108 mW was successfully achieved.
