Abstract

In this paper, in order to realize a quick, smooth, precise gear shift, an advanced control strategy for battery electric bus with automated manual transmission (AMT) is proposed. The efficient shift schedules considering the power consumption of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) can be determined by means of optimization technique. Without a clutch between PMSM and transmission input shaft, performing the speed control of them, the synchronization at gear shift is guaranteed and it enables to reduce the power dissipated and shorten the shifting time. Hence, it results in the improvement of shift quality and the driving comfort of the bus. More than sixty battery electric buses which adopt the proposed gear shift control strategy are running in the Expo 2010's site which proves the validity of it.
