Abstract

A fragile penetrator material made of W-Ni-Al-Fe was studied. The material was made by CIP and sintering process. Al2O3 was found in the matrix of the materials through metallographic testing and SEM analysis, which reduced the tensile strength. All of this improved the fragmentation of penetrator. The dynamic compressive strength of the new type materials was the same as 93W-Ni-Fe alloys, but the tensile strength reduced about 200MPa and the extension rates reduced 20%.
