Finite element simulation for filling process of engine block casting

Research output: Contribution to journal › Article › peer-review

Abstract

The filling process of the 12150 V diesel engine block casting was studied using finite element. The incompressible, Newtonian fluid flow equations are solved using finite element method. The free surface motion of molten metal is tracked by the volumetric function approach. The results predict the molten metal flow velocity field and temperature field in the filling process of engine block casting. Based on the flow velocity field and temperature field, the filling process was evaluated. The simulating results provide the beneficial reference for the casting parameters of the engine block casting.
