Abstract
Fast visualization of 3D explosion field is studied and implemented by a ray casting algorithm with accelerated processing, based on characteristics of explosion field. With transfer functions and Phong illumination model, opacity look-up table and shading look-up table of each media in 3D field are made. It reduces the operations remarkably. A boundary box technique is utilized to avoid the operations to invalid pixels and the sampling in empty voxel, combined with other methods. Using the Bresenham algorithm and pre-termination method, the efficiency of ray casting is greatly increased. Experimental results show that the accelerated ray casting algorithm can produce the required quality images, speed up the image generation, and meet the requirements of interactive control.
