Abstract

In order to investigate the evaporation characteristics of ethanol-diesel blend fuel, an experimental method of droplet evaporation with post processing techniques is established. The droplet normalized square diameter, temperature and phenomenon during evaporation process is used to analyze the evaporation characteristics at different ambient temperatures. The results show that: the DE10 (diesel (85%) + ethanol (10%) + biodiesel (5%)) droplet has a fluctuation evaporation phase more than D100 (diesel) and the lifetime is shorter at 623 K. Puffing and micro-explosion can be observed during the fluctuation evaporation phase, which causes the droplet normalized square diameter fluctuated. The temperature of DE10 droplet is lower than D100 at first and then becomes higher. When the ambient temperature is 723 K, the evaporation of DE10 droplet remains three-stage characteristics but the fluctuations of normalized square diameter are strengthened. The strengthened micro-explosion causes a fluctuation of temperature but there exists a delay to the time of micro-explosion.
