Abstract

The influence of three compounds, Polyformaldehyde, Polymethyl methacrylate, Sucrose octaacetate, on burning rate and flame temperature of double base (DB) propellant were studied. Theoretic calculation and experiments showed that these compounds could effectively reduce burning rate and flame temperature, and could be used as burning rate depressants. The combustion properties of double base (DB) propellants modified by the addition of organic copper and inorganic lead salts were found to be significantly affected by the level of burning rate depressant in the composition. Adding one or several those compounds and suitable combustion catalysts could produce a series of low burning rate and low flame temperature DB propellants.
