Abstract

To in vestigate the response of multi-sheet structure under hypervelocity impact, a series of experiments and simulations were carried out. Increased amount of the internal energy and velocities of the debris clouds which would impact the backwall were obtained from the simulations. Simulation results between the multi-sheet structure and the double-wall structure were analyzed. The results show that the multi-sheet structure can convert more kinetic energy into internal energy of the debris cloud than the double-wall structure. So, the multi-sheet structure is more effective than the double-wall structure on shielding the hypervelocity impactors.
