Abstract

Experiments of forming compound reactive fragments and its terminal effects on target were carried out. The structural scheme of shaped charge with small length-diameter ratio and hemispherical liner was designed to produce compound reactive fragments. Flash X-ray photographs were taken to indicate the formalizing process of compound reactive fragments. The experimental results show that the reactive materials are wrapped by the crashed hemispherical liner to form a reactive fragment and its chemical property is stable in liner. The chemical reaction of the compound fragment is not initiated until the fragments hit target on impact. Compared with inert penetrator, the compound reactive fragment shows much better performance in damage effect on target. The experiment also demonstrates the feasibility of using metallic hemispherical liner in shaped charge to wrap the reactive materials up. This research gives a means of engineering application of reactive fragment warhead.
