Abstract

Small-holes fabricating experiments were carried out on carbide-YG8, YT5 with DZW-10 EDM tester. The influence of different electrical parameter values, such as voltage and capacitance, on the machining performance, including process efficiency, electrode consumption rate and hole diameter expansion rate, was studied. The effect mechanism of electrical parameter on processing was put forward and the optimal parameter values with excellent processing performance were presented under this experiment conditions. Results show that proper electrical parameter values, especially capacitance value, can significantly improve the processing performance in EDM of carbide. Research can supply specific processing reference to machining other difficult processing materials with EDM.
