Abstract

The water hammer pressure wave in high pressure common rail (CR) system plays an important role in the controlling of multi-injection. To get a deep insight on water hammer pressure wave phenomena, a detailed experimental study on a CR Multi-jet equipment of the solenoid type was conducted, including pressure time histories in the rail and at the injector inlet, as well as flow-rate, for the single and multi injection events. Mechanism of water hammer induced pressure oscillation was studied, and the relationships between wave frequency/amplitude and rail pressure/injection pulse width are clarified. The influence of water hammer pressure wave on multi-injection and consecutive injectors was summarized.
