Abstract

The self-made high response temperature sensors were used to measure the transient temperature on the inner surface of cylinder wall in I. C. engines. By using the measured results under motored conditions, the gas flow characteristic velocities near the inner surface of cylinder wall can be determined in principle. In a standard pipe, transient gas flow velocities are measured by both the laser method and the method presented in this paper: The results show a good agreement with these two methods. Finally, by using the presented method, gas flow characteristic velocities for heat convection and local transient heat fluxes in the cylinder of an air cooling diesel engine are investigated under the motored conditions.
