Abstract

Explosive welding is widely used in many industries. Explosive welding is a joining technique of the same or different kinds of metal alloys that cannot easily be welded by any other welding methods. Interlayer plays an important role to improve the welding quality and decrease the brittle intermetallics. The interlayer is added in between two parallel plates (flyer and base). Since it is a try layered combination, in which flyer is getting accelerated through explosive, and first strikes with interlayer, and then composite plate (flyer + interlayer) collides with base plate. Therefore two types of interfaces are formed (a) flyer-interlayer (b) Interlayer-base. Similarly, the energy dissipation, impact pressure and plastic strain during impact are divided into two interfaces. Explosive welding is short interval process, and it isn't easy to measure these parameters by experiment. However, these parameters can be predicted by using numerical simulation.
