Abstract

Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technique has been considered as a potential candidate for the high rate Wireless Personal Area Network (WPANs) due to its higher capacity with low power operation. In order to get time domain diversity MB-OFDM UWB system transmits the same symbol twice in difference time slots over different bands. In this paper, a PNC relay scheme is proposed based on MB-OFDM system. We propose that DEVs, which are close to Piconet Coordinator (PNC), use the PNC as a relay in the second transmission time. Additionally, a symbol transmission schedule is proposed to provide sufficient time duration for cooperation. During the first transmission of symbol, PNC will listen in on the signal from the Source Device (SDEV) to Destination Device (DDEV) and decode-re-encode it with the same data rate. Then PNC will transmit the signal in the second transmission as well as the SDEV. Our simulation results demonstrate the proposed cooperative PNC relay scheme can significantly improve the Bit Error Probability (BER) performance, which translates into a higher data transmission capability or a power saving capability.
