Abstract

The research on the reaction characteristics and energy release behavior of PTFE/Al reactive material jets is conducted to study the chemical energy release characteristics of fluoropolymer-based reactive material shaped charge liner. The distributed energy release behavior and mechanism of the chemical energy of reactive material jet in quasi-closed compartment container are explored using the static explosion experiment and modified numerical simulation method of impact-induced chemical reaction. The results show that the double pressure peak phenomenon exists in all the pressure curves formed by the reactive material liners with three different thickness, and the pressure values of the first peaks are higher than those of the second pressure peaks. Furthermore, the peak pressure values of the first peaks collected by each channel gradually decreases with the increase in the thickness of the shaped charge liner, while the pressure values of the second peaks barely change. Energy release behavior of reactive material jets within the compartment container can be divided into three distinct stages: shock-induced ignition evolution, primary reaction of the jet, and secondary reaction of the slug. The collision and extrusion loading is the main control parameter for the variation of impact-ignition sequence in different areas of reactive material jet. Materials along the jet axis ignites earlier than those on the outer surface, and have higher reaction rate. The primary rapid reaction of the ignited jet occurs in the central and bottom compartments, forming the first pressure peak. Subsequently, the secondary long-lasting reaction of the slug occurs in the orifice compartment, forming the second pressure peak. Research methods and results can provide beneficial support for the design and engineering application of reactive material shaped charge liner.
