Abstract
Biomass, as a carbon-based renewable energy source, is abundant in reserves and has the potential to replace fossil fuels. The hydrogenation of furfural (FF) is considered a highly significant topic as it serves as a platform compound derived from biomass, which is used as a petrochemical raw material. Nowadays, electrochemical hydrogenation (ECH) reduction of FF is regarded as a green and sustainable method. In this study, niobovanadate modified with Cu-complexes (Cu-OctNH2-V30Nb12) was utilized as catalysts for the selective reduction of FF to furfuryl alcohol (FA), achieving a remarkable conversion rate of up to 94% with 100% selectivity. Furthermore, we conducted a series of electrochemical experiments to investigate the electrocatalytic mechanism.
