Abstract

The carbon concentration field of gas carburizing under the conditions of different temperature distribution was simulated with a program written with Matlab script using the finite difference method, and the effect of uneven temperature distribution on carbon concentration field was analyzed. The results show that the carbon concentration field is impacted by temperature value significantly, and it requires a certain restriction to simplify temperature field as a uniform temperature field in gas carburizing numerical calculation process. If the difference in surface temperature is more than 4°C, the biggest difference of the carbon concentration in the part is more than 0.01%. But the effect of temperature gradient on carbon concentration field is negligible, so the distribution of the carbon concentration field can be calculated in accordance with local surface temperature of the workpiece in gas carburization.
