Abstract

In this paper, the densification behavior of 3 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (3YSZ) ceramic during flash sintering was studied. The material was sintered at different combinations of initial voltage and current density, aiming at independently studying the effect of processing parameters such as temperature, current density, and voltage on the densification of 3YSZ. The results showed that the density of the sintered sample only varied with the current density and was independent of the initial voltage and temperature. The phenomenon was discussed in terms of densification mechanisms.
