Abstract

Based on the thermal mechanism of laser ignition, the effect of laser intensity on the ignition of energetic materials was analyzed by using heat transfer theory, simplified model and approximate method, furthermore, the relationship between the laser diode ignition time ti and laser power density Io, as well as the relationship between the ignition energy Ei of laser diode and the laser power density Io were also derived. It was found that ignition energy Ei decreases as Io increases. These results were compared with our experimental results with qualitative agreement.
