Abstract

This paper presents a flexible, shared-aperture wearable antenna for dual-band integrated 2-D sensing and communication applications. Featuring a compact layout, the design integrates a 2.4 GHz patch radiator for communication and a two-element 24 GHz leaky-wave array for sensing on a single platform. In particular, the antenna enables frequency-controlled beam scanning from -14° to +22° in the xz-plane and achieves angle measurement from -20° to +18° in another principal plane by utilizing the sum-and-difference beams. In addition, the antenna exhibits the peak gains of 1.98 dBi at 2.41-2.45 GHz and 12.37 dBi at 19-30 GHz, respectively. Considering its compact size as well as integrated 2-D sensing and communication capabilities, the antenna shall be attractive for practical applications.
