Abstract
A dual-band octa-antenna system for laptop computers is proposed. The proposed octa-antenna system consists of a quad-antenna system, two dual-antenna system, and two T-shaped resonant strips. The mutual coupling between the quad-antenna system and the two dual-antenna systems is analyzed and reduced. The measured overlapped-10 dB impedance bandwidths of the fabricated antenna are 90 MHz (2.4~2.49 GHz) and 0.9 GHz (5.15~6.05 GHz) at the 2.4-GHz and 5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN bands, respectively. The reflection coefficient is between -9.5~-10 dB within the 5.15~5.19 GHz bands. The measured mutual couplings between the eight elements are all bellow -15 dB at the 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN bands. The measured gains are better than 2.7/3.3 dBi with measured efficiencies higher than 53%/65% at the two bands, respectively. The envelop correlation coefficient is calculated based on the measured 3D radiation patterns.
