Abstract

Magnetic actuation is the most widely used method for microrobot actuation. However, the expansion of the workspace of EMA systems is hindered by the nature of electromagnetic coils. To achieve accurate multi-DOF control and locomotion, a PMA system with a rotating magnet on linear actuators is developed. The system employs electromagnetic actuation for the rotating magnet and designs specialized for realizing 5-DOF control in a large workspace. Closed-loop control and coordination methods for the system elements are implemented. The system enables agile movement and accurate positioning of microrobots in a large workspace, and holds potential for expanding the operational flexibility towards practical applications for microrobots.
