Development and prospect of calcium oxide metallurgical production technology

Abstract

The importance of the oxide metallurgy (OM) technology was recognized. Better products without the defects of coarse-grained HAZ microstructure were produced. The production development, research focus, problems remaining and the research progress of calcium-based OM at home and abroad were introduced. The production technology of calcium-based OM was developed. By this technology, high-performance steel with acicular ferrite online formed was produced via controlling the oxygen contents in the molten steel, adding calcium-based oxide metallurgical agent, controlled rolling and controlled cooling. And then, the differences between calcium-based OM and OM were analyzed. And the applications of calcium-based OM production technology in ordinary con-struction steel and ship steel were discussed. It is hoped that this technology can be developed and popularized in more steel productions.
