Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To establish a HPLC-ELSD method for the determination of the content of artemisinin in artemisinin tablets. METHODS: The analytical column was Thermo RP-C18 (4.6 mm x 250 mm,5 μm). The mobile phase was methanol-water (80:20). The flow rate was 1.0 mL·min-1. The samples were determined by an evaporative light-scattering detector (ELSD) Waters 2420 with the drift tube temperature at 60°C. and the nitrogen flow pressure of 5.8 × 10-3 Pa. RESULTS: The calibration curve was linear in the range of 1.002 - 4.008 μg (for artemisinin, r = 0.999 9). The average recovery (n = 5) was 99.45% (RSD = 2.3%). CONCLUSION: The method is simple, accurate and with good reproducibility. It can be used as the quality control of artemisinin tablet.
