Abstract

A phenomenon was found in an experiment, that the image of a dim target was a crisscross when there was a wire grid in front of the thermal imaging system. The possibility, which was applied to detect a dim target was analyzed. Then a detection method for thermal dim target based on filtering with the front wire grid was proposed. The algorithm flow was introduced in detail, and this algorithm can be used to detect the dim target effectively by means of background suppression, image segmentation, and shape matching. At last, this algorithm was compared with a traditional TBD detection method. Experimental result indicates that this algorithm can distinguish the true target from noise and background better as it can make the point target realize a specific shape expansion. It also reduces complexity of the algorithm so as to achieve real-time processing. This algorithm's promised with a bright future.
