Design of suspended patch antenna with EBG substrate

Abstract

Suspended patch antenna with forklike EBG substrate is designed for broadband application in this paper. Due to the use of EBG structure, the main-side lobe ratio of the antenna is increased by 3.3dB. Simulation and experiments have been carried out to verify the improvement in the antenna performance. The use of fork-like EBG structure also leads to an easy way to design the entire structure.
