Abstract

An asymmetric antipodal Vivaldi antenna with frequency scanning function is proposed. The frequency scanning is achieved by two different exponential curves on the upper and bottom surfaces of the tapered slot antenna (TSA). The antenna is fed by microstrip line of 50 Ohm characteristic impedance. The proposed antenna shows 20.7% bandwidth from 6.5 GHz to 8.0 GHz with VSWR less than 2. The gain of the proposed antenna ranges from 5.4 dB to 6.75 dB through the whole effective bandwidth. The main beam of the E-plane radiation patterns at 6.5 GHz, 7.25 GHz, and 8 GHz, are 45 Deg, 50 Deg, and 60 Deg, respectively, which clearly displays the frequency scanning function of the proposed antenna.
