Abstract

A K-band low-profile broadband circularly polarized (CP) phased array antenna (PAA) with a wide axial ratio (AR) bandwidth for millimeter-wave communication systems is designed in this work. The radiating unit is a stacked patch antenna with a stripline coupler feeding network to ensure the AR performance. The -10 dB impedance bandwidth and 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth overlap in the frequency range from 22.83 to 28.08 GHz. Subarray rotation technology is applied to the 8 × 8 array, ensuring the AR performance. Simulated results show a wide scanning range of up to 57°, 53°, and 48° at 23,25.5, and 28 GHz, respectively, with a scanning loss of less than 3 dB.
