Abstract

This paper proposes a broadband dual-polarized active frequency selective surface (AFSS) with switchable operating modes, which consists of three metallic layers and two F4B substrates. By controlling the biasing state of the PIN diodes, the proposed structure realizes the switching function between the reflection mode and the broadband transmission mode. At the reflection mode, electromagnetic (EM) waves are shielded from 0 to 8.24 GHz. Meanwhile, the transmission bandwidth ranges from 2.96 to 4.6 GHz, with a fractional bandwidth of 43.4% during transmission mode. The AFSS design has stable dual-polarization characteristics and a wider transmission band than previous research, which is suitable for application in radar radomes and stealth technology.
