Abstract

The two-stage turbocharging systems have showed a promising application for the heavy duty diesel engines and high performance vehicle diesel engines. A regulation valve of a two-stage turbocharging system is arranged into the high pressure turbine volute to reduce the system sizes. Matching calculations for the turbocharging system and a diesel engine are made. Calculations in designing of two turbine volutes and regulating valve were taken. Experiments are conducted with the designed system. The performance tests of the regulating valve showed that the valve could by pass 30% mass flow when the expansion ratio of the high pressure stage varies from 1.2 to 2. The performance tests of the two-stage turbocharging system showed that the system worked effectively with high efficiency.
