Abstract

In this paper, a single-relay cooperative spatial modulation (SM) system based on color shift keying (CSK) modulation in visible light communication (VLC) has been proposed, which aims to improve the system performance and expand the communication range. For the proposed scheme, only one relay with decode-and-forward (DF) protocol can be activated during a communication process without direct link and the optimal maximum likelihood (ML) detection is employed. The average bit error rate (ABER) of the proposed scheme has been derived based on the system pairwise error probability (PEP). Monte-Carlo simulation results show advantages of the proposed system compared with the non-cooperative SM VLC scheme and the conventional cooperative SM VLC system.
