Abstract

Wireless communications at terahertz (THz) and infrared (IR) frequencies are considered as the most potential candidates for future wireless networks due to its wider frequency bandwidth and higher beam directionality. In this work, we try to investigate and compare the propagation of THz and IR waves in snow. A theoretical model combining Mie scattering theory and gaseous attenuation are proposed to predict the signal degradation. Comparison between of a 300 GHz wave and a 1550nm wave are also conducted under different snowfall rates.
