Control-oriented modeling and analysis for turbocharged diesel engine system

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

In this paper, three different control-oriented models for the turbocharged diesel engine are proposed on the Matlab/Simulink. They are the mean-value model, the partmap-based model and the cylinder-by-cylinder model, and they are modeled by considering the special requirements of typical control strategies on the model-based modern control design process. The first model is developed by considering the typical characteristics of the diesel engine and it has a high compute speed. Then the second model is built based on the first model by introducing a steady-state cylinder pressure map to provide engine cycle-to-cycle characteristics as well as to guarantee the high compute speed. The third model contains not only cycle-to-cycle combustion information by using the Watson combustion function but also the averaged engine dynamics which is the same as the first model. And these three models are applied to two typical control strategies to prove the practicality and advantages for different model-based control requirements.
