Abstract

Mg/Al-layered double hydroxides (LDH) with different particle size have been prepared using non-equilibrium aging conditions by supplying a solution of Mg(NO3)42 · 6H2O and Al(NO3)3 · 9H2O and a solution containing NaOH and Na2CO3 at a later aging stage. It was found that the particle size of LDH could be controlled to some extent by changing the quantities of salt and base added in the second step. Furthermore it was found that LDH samples with a stable composition and increased crystallinity could be synthesized by this method.
