Abstract

A new pulse control variable nozzle turbine(VNT) is presented to utilize the exhaust energy more effectively. A commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) software NUMECA is used to carry out the study for the conventional VNT and pulse control VNT based on JK90S turbine. The computational results show that pulse control VNT can increase turbine power and expansion ratio by 36.8% and 24.8% respectively, which verify that it can make better use of engine exhaust energy than a conventional VNT.
