Abstract

A miniaturized Planar Inverted F-shaped Antenna (PIFA) using active matching is presented for 5 G mobile terminal applications in this paper. The antenna structure has a small volume of 28.5 × 5 × 2 mm3. In order to cover the bandwidth below 1 GHz, non-Foster circuit is introduced for active matching. It can produce equivalent negative inductance, and achieve conjugated matching with the electrically small PIFA. The simulated -10 dB bandwidth ranges from 600 MHz to 1 GHz. What's more, the gain enhancement is more than 8 dB in the bandwidth.
