Abstract

Magnetic fluid dynamic sealing holds significant application value in high-speed rotating machinery, yet performance degradation caused by centrifugal forces critically limits its operational speed range. Current strategies focus on developing precise centrifugal force-sealing capacity models and optimizing structural designs, but numerical models fail to compensate for performance losses, while structural modifications face spatial constraints and inherent sealing mode limitations. Notably, centrifugal kinetic energy generated by shaft rotation represents redundant energy in these systems. This study establishes a centrifugal pressure-enhancement compensation mechanism utilizing this redundant energy, proposing a centrifugal convergence-integrated magnetic fluid seal mode. An arc-shaped pole teeth magnetic fluid seal (A-MFS) was developed, featuring a unique curved flow channel design that fundamentally alters centrifugal force effects. This innovation induces magnetic fluid confluence, achieving dynamic pressure reinforcement under rotation. Experimental validation using a dedicated testing system demonstrated that A-MFS maintains superior sealing performance under centrifugal forces, exhibiting over 300% enhancement compared to conventional rectangular pole teeth seal (R-MFS). The performance improvement escalates with rotational speed, effectively counteracting degradation tendencies. Mechanistic analysis confirms that the arc-shaped structure transforms centrifugal forces from degradation factors into performance-enhancing mechanisms through regulated fluid redistribution. This breakthrough addresses long-standing limitations in high-speed applications and significantly expands the operational boundaries of magnetic fluid seal technology. The work provides a paradigm-shifting approach for harnessing rotational energy to improve sealing performance, offering broad implications for advanced rotating machinery design.
