Abstract
Based on the mode of ductile hole expansion, the Chen-and-Li model and Forrestal-and-Warren model were analyzed for a rigid sharp-nosed projectile perforating ductile metallic target plates. Analysis shows that these two models have the same formula, but their applicable ranges are different which is due to their employing the cylindrical cavity expansion theory and spherical cavity expansion theory, respectively. And these two models were compared with the experimental results from the perforation of aluminum plates by rigid sharp-nosed projectiles. The theoretical results by these two models are in agreement with the experimental results.
