Abstract

The signal interference was divided into two parts, transmission interference and carrier interference, and the impact of signal interference on the DCF fairness was investigated in detail. Considering there are multi-pairs of receivers and transmitters in the network, if the transmitters are all in the other's physical carrier sensing range, the physical carrier-sense mechanism can provide a synchronization mechanism, thus guarantee the fairness for DCF protocol. However, if some of the transmitters are out of the other's physical carrier sensing range, the DCF protocol may suffer from a serious fairness problem because of the carrier interference. Even worse, some pairs of receivers and transmitters will capture the channel because of the collision caused by the signal interference, leading to the extreme unfairness.
