Abstract

This paper proposes an ultra-wideband compact transverse electromagnetic (TEM) horn antenna with a doubleridge structure. Different from the traditional TEM horn antenna, the proposed antenna is based on an exponentially gradient metal plate. By loading the rectangular plate and trapezoidal plate structure in a targeted manner to introduce a loop, and adding a double-ridge structure, a compact TEM horn antenna combining an equivalent electric dipole and a magnetic dipole is formed, which successfully achieves antenna size reduction and performance optimization. The designed antenna shows good performance in the frequency band from 6 GHz to 30 GHz. Its electrical size at low frequency is only 0.2 λL × 0.2 λ L × 0.16 λL, while maintaining a gain of more than 4dBi at most frequency points in the band. The proposed antenna has excellent performance and can achieve effective information transmission in complex communication systems.
