Abstract

The concept of spatial multiplexing multi-focal surface is a research hotspot in the research direction of near eye display and optometry. The biocular near eye display optical scheme with defocus stimulation function has become the focus of this research direction. It is a difficult task to design an optical near-eye desktop display with biocular observation and spatial multiplexing multi-focal surface. This paper presents a design method of biocular near eye desktop display with spatial multiplexing and multi-focal based on birdbath. The optical scheme is composed of five optical elements and three LCD displays, which can realize the magnification of the image displayed by three LCD displays. Among them, a splitter and a curved mirror are used as the principle base of birdbath optical system. The triangular space structure formed by the three beam splitters realizes the return propagation of the three sets of images in the structural space, and finally ensures that the images of the three focal planes can enter the human eye smoothly. The imaging depth of the system crosses the observation range of the human eyesfrom near to far. Virtual images distance is from 3m to 8m, and the defocus stimulation is realized. The total volume of the optical system does not exceed 445mm×430mm×285mm. All three focal planes are based on a 5.5-inch LCD. The diagonal FOV of the whole optical system is 15°, the eye box is 100mm×70mm, and the eye relief is 500mm.
