Abstract

In this paper, a compact all-metallic dual-beam patch antenna is presented. The two short edges of the patch are connected to the ground via two shorting walls, and the two long edges are connected to the ground via two columns of shorting strips. Owing to the asymmetric arrangement of shorting strips, dual beam operation can be achieved. The profile of the proposed antenna is only 0.06λ. The simulated results show that the -10 dB impedance bandwidth is 5.5% (5.88 ∼ 6.21 GHz). The two beams are directed at ±45°. The peak gain is about 9 dBi, and the cross polarization is very small.
